I started playing drums when I was 13 years old. At first I didn´t have own kit, but I played drums in my school where I had my first band with Kari "Kakke" Vähäkuopus (same guy who produced our first Burning Point album). My desire to play was so strong, so I got to have my own kit. Luckily I was soon able to spare some money for them. The drums weren´t pretty cool, but you know you got to start somewhere.

After few years from that I played in a few local bands incl. Nortia, which was my first "real band". Our music was kind of 80´s hardrock mixed with modern power metal. We did lot of gigs around the northern Finland and few demos. We had also lot of positive contacts to many record labels around the Europe, but somehow we never made a deal. After 6 years of rocking we decided to split up, mostly because of our singer Jani Outinen (also known as a drummer of metal band Afterworld). He didn´t have enough time for Nortia, and we didn´t find any singer to replace him. Also our guitar player and head-composer Juha Koskinen moved to other town to continue his studies, so we decided to quit the band.

Shortly after that in 1998 I met Pete Ahonen in a local bar in Oulu and we started talk about music (what else), and we found lot of things in common, so he asked me to join his project (Planet Caravan) with his guitar partner Jukka Kyrö. They had serious line-up problems with drummer and also bass player was needed. So, I moved into their rehearsal room with all my equipment. What else can say now: "I´ve finally found the right guys to make some great music and have fun".

I´ve always knew the drums are my instrument. I remember when I was 9 years old, me and my brother played a band in our room. I beated the pillows with sticks and my brother played air- guitar. From that moment I knew this is what I want to do. I never learnt to play guitar neither any other instrument.

Since I was 6 years old, I´ve been inspired by the bands like Accept, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden and many other 80´s classics. It´s funny, but I never had any drummer-idols, you know, but of course there are players whose work I honor, like Stefan Kaufmann, Nicko McBrain, Mike Terrana and Cozy Powell for example. Those names have definitely affected on my playing, permanently.
