Biography

We lived in the countryside and looked forward to summer every year in the late seventies. My nearest cousins Hannu and Margit (among those other 20 summer relatives) came from Sweden and long Finnish summer nights offered a young boy splendid and unforgettable moments and feelings. My first musical interests came from my mother`s side. Her brother Esko always used to play the accordeon in the summertime and dozens of relatives used to dance in our big countryhouse and it was quite exciting to a five-year-old kid. My cousin Tapani was maybe the main reason why I found heaven while playing the bass. When we visited them we always played air guitars and Hurriganes was "still rocking". That period was the happiest time of my life.

Hassisen Kone was also an interesting ingredient in Finnish rock music. Then came Hanoi Rocks and I secretly run away from my family to see my first rebel rock gig ever. I was amazed because I had never seen anything like that. The first live-experience was so tough that I lost a present given by my grandparents, which was a watch. It still bothers me :(

I also started running and long jump + other athletics. Those friends in track and field made a huge impact on me. One of those impacts was a Finnish band Musta Paraati (Black Parade), which I was introduced to in Finnish Athletics Championships by my athletic friend. Then came this new romantic period which brought bands like Depeche Mode, Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, Duran Duran, Japan, Eve (a Finnish one), Joy Division, New Order, U2, Simple Minds to my life in the eighties. We used similar jackets as Human League and sometimes even make-up. We also started our first band New Romance with Ismo, Juha (our ex-drummer) and Vellu. We also had brilliant artist names: Matt Kristel, Kris Marlene, John Dietrich, Dave... (sorry, don’t remember the surname). Our Music was quite close to Depeche Mode, songs like 1989.

A short period for The Mission took place in the early nineties and then it was the time for Grunge: Pearl Jam, SOUNDGARDEN, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and Nirvana. At the same time I also listened to The Smiths and Sonicroom (Harry’s first band). In those days we had different bands and the names were weird ones: RIMME (we even recorded a couple of songs, Antti played the guitar but nowadays he is mixing The Rasmus) Fucking Alajärvi (we played even when people went to Christmas church in the morning watched by 4 stupid late teenagers), The Temple and NEEM (Johnny’s most famous song was I want to kill my Cat). That was a really good time: friends and girls.

In the late nineties I also used to listen to heavier music such as Faith No More, CMX, Led Zeppelin and even Prodigy. The Cure and Suede have been my favourites and I have seen them twice live on stage. In the late 90’s came this strong singer-songwriter period as well: Chris Cornell, Jeff Buckley and DAVID SYLVIAN. In 1998 we started Passionworks with Kai, Micki, Harry and me. And it has affected me so emotionally that it’s hard to describe: many tears, happiness, cries and whispers, strong feelings.

The 2000 has brought Kent, Live, David Bowie, Audioslave, Him, MUSE, Mew, Mansun, Coldplay and Radiohead to my life. I’ve seen brilliant gigs by Depeche Mode, Audioslave, Nine Inch Nails and Keane but maybe the best gigs ever have been Suede, The Levellers and Faith No More at Provinssirock during the 90’s.

Sometimes I listen to classical music in my car. Nowadays life seems to be too stressful and silent music makes me peaceful. My classical favorites are Jean Sibelius and Johan Sebastian Bach.

As you can see, MUSIC has affected me a lot. It’s a part of my life, now and forever. I make music because it’s fun, and it’s nice to "act" live on stage :) And you can really feel what you want, what your heart says.

At the end I’d like to say I’m a sensitive man and want to feel better about myself. I have taken the first steps on my long trip. I also want to improve the world and believe in a better world. Please, let’s try to love each other. Listen To Your Heart!
