Biography

First of all, my main goal with this project was to make music that I would like to hear as a heavy music fan which I am. I must say that I`m really pleased with the way the songs turned out. Because they turned out fuckin' great. It`s very strong material with a lot of diversity. We did a good job with the guys. Thanks guys! And one thing that pleases me is the fact that these songs also work in a live situation, I know it already. I had my doubts about it before because the songs have so much stuff in them but in rehearsals the songs have proven their abilities.

This has been a very long process for me personally. I started doing these songs actually over a year ago so you can understand that I`ve been waiting like crazy for this record to be done. I spent last summer in my motorcycle clubhouse`s back room doing these songs. Jukka and Teemu also spent hours and hours in there. The whole songwriting process really caused the fact that I got to know the guys much better than I did before. It`s a more intimate situation than rehearsing cover songs or playing live. You kind of give something from your soul when you're making a song. I don`t know if that`s true with all the songwriters but in our case it is. And I have to mention that this song called New Dawn from the upcoming album, it`s the first song that I really made. I mean a whole song with complete lyrics and all that. And it`s also the first song that we wrote together with Jukka and Teemu.

I`ve been working on new material for a while now and I think we are really going to take it to a new level with them. And there`s one thing I like to say about these songs and the upcoming record. Someone might think after hearing them all, that we haven`t found our own style because the songs are very different from each other. Well, that`s not the case. We wanted to make all kinds of songs. I hate records where the situation is that when you have heard one track, you`ve heard them all. We didn`t want that. So there`s a lot of diversity in there. It makes possible for each song to stand out.

Here`s what Mr. Vapola has to say about the songs:

Wildheart
This is a song which also started out from old guitar riff I had been playing. From that scratch we moulded it to be this wonderful song. The end part I had covered also earlier on. Jukka and Teemu has great deal of their work in it. There`s quite unusual ending in this one. It really builds up right in to the last note of it. Works like a charm.

Last Train to Hell
This one came to me one night when I was watching a movie. During the movie, all of a sudden this one strikes me like a lightning from the bright sky. I went right away and recorded the rhythm guitars, bass and drums and had the chorus melody ready right away. Really straight forward heavy song. The song is about the Madrid train bombings a year ago and all that kind of terrorist shit that goes on in the world right now. "The cruelty in our hearts will tear this world apart".

On the Edge of Eternity
The main riff is something that I had been playing for years before it finally turned into a song. The riff is so good that it took a long time to write the rest of the song to match the high standard it set out. My absolute favourite. It`s perfect. The whole structure, the melodies, the solos, everything. This one says it all. It also took a long time to compose. But now it`s 11 minutes of pure taste. Couldn`t have done it without Jukka`s great contribution. And Teemu`s.

The Real Me
I tuned my guitar down and this is what came out. I almost dumped this song because I had some real difficulties in coming up with the chorus melodies. I tried many versions but nothing seemed to work. But then one fine morning when I was having my cop of coffee it all came to me, clear as a day. The whole package. Melodies and lyrics. Just like that. It`s funny how your mind works even when you don`t know it. Then Teemu came up with the vocal a-parts and Jukka put in the strings. Right then it turned out to sound a little like Kashmir. But that`s ok because that`s a fine song. But this one`s even better :) Nice tempo change in the middle section. It really rocks the hell out of everyone!

Lovehunter
We wanted to do one very simple 80`s kind of number and this is it. Excellent chorus and I do like the solo.

New Dawn
I`ve had my doubts with this one. But it really turned out great. This idea I started on a few chords and a drum beat. Jukka has a lot of input in this one. Really melodic with plenty of synths.

In My Dreams
This one is all me. This is the kind of thing what I like to hear. And yes, it sounds a bit like Joe Satriani. That was kind of the idea, I think. Wrote this one in one fine Friday morning when I had some time to kill. I thought that I needed a break from our "real" songs that I was working on at the time and decided just to record whatever would feel good at that very moment. And there it came. This one is all about feeling. I really didn`t plan a single note for it and it came out nice. This is what it means when you hear someone saying that "guitar sings".

The King and the God
The last song we made for this album. Came together quite easily. In this state it was obvious that our team work in songwriting point of view had improved. One of my favourite songs. I mean in general, not just of our songs. :)

Coming Home
First one I started to work on back then. A long time ago. I had it completed in full except the vocals before I played it to the guys. It was the first song I`ve made so I really didn`t know how they would respond. But they liked it so we worked out the lyrics and vocal lines with Teemu.
