NIGHTWISH Singer Interviewed On Swedish National Radio

NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon was interviewed on the Swedish national radio (Sveriges Radio) P3 prior to her performance with Swedish hard rockers MUSTASCH at last night's (January 19) "P3 Guld" (Swedish radio's annual music awards) live awards ceremony broadcast from the Scandinavium Arena in Gothenburg, Sweden. The chat is now available for streaming below (with English-language subtitles).

Olzon and MUSTASCH performed a medley of five songs which were nominated in the "Song Of The Year" category during the "P3 Guld" broadcast. Video of the performance can be viewed below.

Anette Olzon recently spent time in Stockholm, Sweden creating songs for her upcoming solo album with Swedish producers Stefan Örn and Johan Glössner.

Olzon's forthcoming solo album will be co-produced by Swedish producer/songwriter Anders Bagge, who has previously worked with MADONNA, CELINE DION, JANET JACKSON and JESSICA SIMPSON, among others. He is also one of judges on the Swedish TV talent competition "Idol" and a producer of the TV series "Made in Sweden".

Olzon performed on August 13, 2009 with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra at a special concert in Stockholm, Sweden as part of the Stockholms Kulturfestival (Stockholm's Culture Festival).

I also love the head of Agnes when Anette starts to sing her song like "ooohhhh myyy fucking goddddddd", poor Agnes.

So I have to say that I don't understand why Anette sings so badly here. Normally her voice is nice in pop or pop rock music, I mean, her voice fits to this kind of music. I, for exemple like her voice in october and april. In live it sucks really. Why she feels she has to scream the songs everytime she opens her mouth ?

Do you not realize, that the stuff you hear on radio and records is edited. She simply can't sing like she does on pre-recorded and edited songs.

Is this still the Nightwish news section or did I miss something?... It looks like Anette has successfully exploited the band's media silence to her advantage. Before anyone jumps up and says "The media silence applies only to Nightwish, not their side projects", why are we not reading about Tarot or Brother Firetribe or anything else that the boys have been up to? Heck, I'd be interested in hearing some news on that. They're keeping out of the spotlight, though, it seems, while Anette is basking in it.

I don't know much about singing technique so I can't judge properly, but as a plain listener I don't think they sounded that bad... maybe during the last part of the song, and that the music overpowered them a lot, but I don't think it was painful to hear either. They could and should have done better though, I believe.

So like... when am I going to see NIGHTWISH in the headline of a story and actually have it have anything to do with NIGHTWISH? No one cares about Anettes seperate projects, shes not even Finnish. No one cares about her in general. I mean, I know that no one here likes Nightwish either, but at least it would be relevant.

I know they're on a break, so were not going to hear much from them either way --- but it doesn't mean the Anette stories do anyone any good. Clearly, they only anger if anything lol.

This is for you both: Tarot is making a new album. It's called Gravity Of Light and will be released in spring 2010. Here is the link to their official site where it stands on:

But for some reason MFF was just too bussy with only posting Princess news and just ignored the Tarot news, since Princess is not a part of Tarot (and hopefully she never will...)
Or at least that's the only reason I can think of, considering I, together with some others, sended this in December 2009 via the Got News Link and it also appeared on almost any other metal website. Including Blabbermouth, where MFF get's most news. But it never was put down here as news. And since Tarot is a Finnish metal band, the only reason I can think of for not posting here, is that it involves a different Nightwish member then Princess, and for that it isn;t intresting.
Same is for Brother Firetribe. On Blabbermouth and other metalwebsite's there is every know and then news from them. But also that isn't featured here. Only the BF news which included Princess is posted.

So if you are looking for sideprojects from other Nightwish members, just look at blabbermouth.net, their own websites or any other metalnews site. Since it will not be featured here when it doesn't involves Princess.
[Just for the record, I love MFF and I spend way to much time here. But that mentallity just doesn;t makes sense..]

And how exactly do you know this?... There are quite a few people here who still like Nightwish, myself included. If I didn't like the band, minus Anette, I would not be here in the first place. IMHO Anette/Princess/whatever has used NW as a launching pad for her solo-career.

She had only heard of the band 2 months before Tarja was fired, and even then, only listened to Once and End Of An Era. Why in the hell did they hire her?

Maybe it was pressure from the record companies, because I'm not so certain that it was for her musical ablity. She sounds so 'nice' (depending on what your opinion on her weird singing is) on Dark Passion Play is because of Pro-Tools, I'm fairly certain of that fact.

Like Legeon pointed out in another thread, she told her teacher that 'i'm going to sing my way'... you can clearly hear what 'her way' has gotten her. Her voice is terrible.

Wouldn't be surprised if she has polyps on her vocal-chords from not properly warming up and singing the way her throat is meant to.

I understand, she's not Tarja, but still, when you are even considering auditioning for a band of the caliber of Nightwish, you get some goddamned lessons, because otherwise, you'll breakdown on tour, and crack when you try to sing high-notes... which *shock* that's what's happened with Anette.

That's speaking from a bit of a trained perspective(4 months of lessons)

Now on her personally... I think she's an arrogant, self-absorbed materialistic biyatch.

Personal thoughts about Princess aside, this is a Swedish singer doing a pop album. This ain't Pop From Sweden, this is METAL FROM F@#$ING FINLAND!!! When NW ended the DPP tour I thought, "Great, now maybe we can all stop fighting and talk about the side projects we all enjoy." No such luck apparently.

I don't know if this is because the staff is forgetting to post Tarot and BF news or if it's because people that come here like to see trainwrecks, but I think MFF is doing a great disservice with all the Olzon news. What's more pertinent to this site:
News about an album from some of the founders of Finnish metal

or

News about the pop solo album of a singer that is only being posted here because she released one album with the most popular band in the country?

MFF Staff: Rest assured that we are doing the best we can providing news from as many bands as possible. Last weeks have been a bit more difficult than before cause I personally took a long overdue vacation and therefore MFF newsflow probably wasn't as rich as it used to be. And you really can't say that we are just posting about Olzon and NW. But I promise that we will focus more on finding news also from other bands.

First, no other NW member does promote his side projects properly. On the other hand Princess DID promote her "secret gig" - she did mention that on her blog and I think also in some interview.

So, expectation were HIGH.

You can be in a band without fighting, maybe it's just me and my American point-of-view, but they can work out whatever differences they have if they were to actually TALK, but, of course, they don't, at least if the interviews, Once Upon A Nightwish, and End Of Innocence is any indicator of how things work within Nightwish.

IMO, they would all be happier if they got rid of the diva. She is WORSE than Tarja, and I'm actually slightly shocked that noone bothered, or noticed that Princess didn't even mention the May 2009 US tour in her 'Bye 2009' blog post send off, and, when a commentor pointed the glaring ommision out... she blew the person off without repliying.

No honey,there are HUGE differences.

First,Tarja didn't join Nightwish just to start and promote her solo career.When she joined them,they were unknown,they were rejected by record labels,and they said that it would be only for one or two records,not for live shows or anything that serious.
This is what Tuomas said to Tarja when he asked her to join.
And before saying that i wasn't there so all these must be lies,these are what Tuomas said himself.
But,on the other hand,Anette joined a world famous band just to be able to start her solo career.
And you know what?She admitted that herself.Or else,why would a pop lover join a metal band,if not for fame and money?
But i highly doubt that Tarja joined a completely unknown band for the same reasons.

Second,Tarja was in Nightwish 9 years.Since the beginning.She tried really hard,she toured for ages and ages,she worked hard to make,along with the other members,Nightwish as it is today.

Anette,on the other hand,did nothing.She made no effort at all,she became famous just by joining them.

Sometimes I really wonder if some of her "deep" posts aren't her manager's suggestions to try and keep fans on her side. You're forgetting something, though. Anette hates it when someone tries to criticize her, "control" her "like a puppet", and tell her what to do. Her manager must have so much fun with her these days just standing back and letting Anette do her own thing.

In my opinion, the best way to make music is to make the songs sound like you want. When you are satisfied with results, it doesn't matter if fans don't like it. As long as you like what you have done, everything is fine.

I don't believe they play only for money. They play for fun, they love their job, they love the fans' reactions etc. The world is not black and white. I think it was Tuomas who said in an interview that none of the band members is superplayer but when they play together they do magics. And I agree with him.

The improvment I meant was not an impovement as musicians but an improvement musically.

Live situtations, y'know. There's no band who never does mistakes while playing live. There's no singer who never forgets lyrics. Some singers can handle the situation well and others get confused or just mumble.

And Marco remembered the lyrics when he tried the song again, wit some help from Anette and the crowd. :)

Oh, and the lyrics were written by Tuomas, not Marco.

it actually happened in year 2008.When i saw them live,again.And i noticed that there was a huge difference between this performance and the one back in 2005.Not only in quality but also in how they seemed as a band...Not tight at all.

I also happened to read Marcelo's side of story,at the time.And i also met Tarja at the time.
Therefore,after seeing both sides(i also saw Tuomas backstage) i was able to understand who's the diva and who's not.

I'll have to agree with those here who say NW's music has become commercial and aimed towards mainstream audiences. And I don't just mean it with DPP. Nemo was a huge commercial success, and it was designed to be that. There's little "metal" you will find in that song, but I think Tarja's voice made it a bit less popish than, let's say, amaranth, which does have all the elements for it to be as mainstream as it got.

Once was mainstream, DPP is mainstream. don't kid yourselves.

Sorry for my abscence but friday I started feeling ill and have been throwing up, high fever, headache and cough so yesterday I couldnt lift my head from the pillow. Today I feel better and are trying to get some food in the stomach after not being able to eat anyhing for two days."

And all this suffering just for 5 minutes of singing... I can not understand how she could manage on gigs with NW (I suppose that GIG with NW lasts normally more then 5 minutes)

Actually, today she introduced Tarja in TWO NW songs ... interesting, is not it?

Only this year, after she hired her own manager, we read title saying "now I understand why Tarja did that".

All Princess understanding Tarja is dated 2009, NOT 2008, NOT 2007.

In year 2010 Princess even started to give Tarja? singing a space on her own blog.

Now. We had road blogs saying: I DID DECISION.

Then we were told that: Well, my decision was answered with positive feedback, now there is another decision to be made..

and out of sudden we can watch Tarja singing 10th man down on Princess blog.

Is it just me, or does Princess identify herself with Tarja? Suddenly?

I really hope she is not going to leave NW. Though, I see no other explanation.

I am always impressed how Princess fans do ignore what she says and dream some better version of Anette instead.

Let's say, people like cranberry juice. They like its taste, they like its color, they enjoy the way it looks and cranberry juice gives a specific set of nutrients, fulfilling certain nutrimental needs.
