Taipei is in Taiwan. Only the PRC claim it to be a part of a part of the PRC. The post should be changed to reflect that; it doesn't help if claims like these are accepted as fact in the West. Hope people would agree.

I'm glad people agree - and I agree with you, Pamela :)
However I'm slightly perturbed that the news story has remained unclarified...

OK, according to Doris Yeh's (bassist of Chthonic) Facebook Ensiferum has corrected the list on their website; it now reads Taipei, TAIWAN. Good on you boys! :D

Well, Taipeh is not in the People's Republic of China (PRC), but it is in the Republic of China (ROC). Taiwan is not a state, but only the name of an island. The official name of the state commonly known as "Taiwan" is ROC (the Pescadores Islands, for example, belong to the ROC, as well, not only the mainland). Both states, the ROC and the PRC claim the whole of China, including Taiwan, as their own national territory. This confusing situation has historical reasons: The ROC is the original, democratic government of China that was driven out by Mao's communist forces and fled to Taiwan, and established itself there. Nevermind that Taiwan was conquered by China only in 1662 from the Dutch ...

To make a long story short, correct would be the following:
Beijing (PRC)
Taipeh (ROC)

Slow response I know, but Almagest hits on an important point, which is that the PRC has no more claim on Taiwan than the Netherlands. The key difference between the PRC and the ROC however, is that the ROC is pretty much restricted to Taiwan and referred to as such, whereas the PRC is an ambitious and expansionist government that looks to claim other countries such as Taiwan and Tibet as its own when it has little corporeal support. The Western world is shitting itself too much over China's recent economic increases in power for these facts to be made more widely known.
