MetalSymphony.com has uploaded photos of former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen's September 27, 2009 concert at Sala La Riviera in Madrid, Spain. Also available are pictures of support act KINGS OF MODESTY and ASPERA. Check them out at this location.

Tarja's setlist was as follows:

01. Enough
02. My Little Phoenix
03. She's My Sin
04. The Seer
05. Minor Heaven
06. I Walk Alone
07. Ciaran's Well
08. Tired Of Being Alone
09. Lost Northern Star
10. Poison
11. Wisdom Of Wind + Boy And The Ghost + Our Great Divide + Calling Grace
12. If You Believe
13. Nemo
14. Sing For Me
15. Oasis
16. Deep Silent Complete
17. Die Alive

The lineup of Turunen's band for the "Final Storm Tour 2009", which kicked off on September 19 at the Elf Fantasy Fair in Arcen, Netherlands, is as follows:

* Tarja Turunen - Voice
* Mike Terrana (MASTERPLAN, SAVAGE CIRCUS, RAGE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) - Drums
* Christian Kretschmar (SCHILLER) - Keyboards
* Oliver Holzwarth (BLIND GUARDIAN, SIEGES EVEN) - Bass
* Alex Scholpp (FARMER BOYS) - Guitar
* Max Lilja (HEVEIN, APOCALYPTICA) - Cello

Turunen recently recorded three songs for a Finnish Christmas album, produced by Olli Ahvenlahti. According to Turunen, this is "a charity project for missionary workers in Finland and it is going to be released in the beginning of November in Finland."

Tarja Turunen has set "What Lies Beneath" as the working title of her new solo CD, tentatively due in early 2010. She says, "With [2007's] 'My Winter Storm', I chose the name of the album in the early stages and that helped me to create the concept for the album. With the new album, I decided to do it the same way, so I searched for an inspiring title and all the songs are one way or another related to it."

  5. Can anyone who attended the show tell how she did
Wisdom Of Wind + Boy And The Ghost + Our Great Divide + Calling Grace
in one shot? Was it Wisdom of Wind with some snippets or how she managed to do that?

  6. @OceanWithin: it was a medley - 2 minutes of each song. ;-)

  7. Wow! Her outfit that night kicked so much ass. I've seen some videos of her lately, and it seems she's doing very well. Setlist was cool, too. ^_^

  9. Yesterday I was at Tarja?s concert in Ludwigsburg and I want to give a little review about it, as it is also a good way to express my opinion about her performance, the music, the way she dresses and the communication and her connection with the audience.

    FIRST of all:

It was one of the best moments in my life so far and it let me forget for an evening all the things that are going wrong in my life. All that I wished to happen, happened.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH, TARJA!!!!

But maybe it?s better when I start talking about the support bands. ;-)
The first one, a german one, was?not that good. I also forgot which name they have :D
Maybe some of you know Tokio Hotel. One of the reasons for me as a german why I can?t be proud of my country.
Well! The guys from the support band reminded me of Tokio Hotel. The singer made some perverse gestures and they all looked and acted like Emos. The only one that really didn?t seem to fit into the band was the bassist. He looked very normal.
About there music I just can say: I didn?t understand that much, but what I?ve heard supports the impression that I mentioned above: EMO!!!!
The second support band was Kings of Modesty, a finnish band. They were way better than the previous band and I enjoyed there performance. Also the singer was really funny and charismatic.

Now about the best part of the evening :-D
The band came on stage and ? well!.. you could hear that the venue was full. They started to play ?Enough?, one of my favourite songs from her and one of my wishes came true that evening. Hearing that song live is way better than hearing it from the album. It has a lot more power.
And faster than you could think: ?Wow, Tarja must come in a moment?, she was there in a wonderful dress. In those seconds I really thought I would get a hearing impairment. The audience was SO loud.
The 4th song was ?The Seer?. I never heard that song live before and I love her singing the part before the chorus. Amazing!
One of best moment was also ?I walk alone?, at which she wore the ?Ice-Queen?-Dress. One of my favourite. The song was very powerful and one of the moments, where the audience seemed to sing as loud as Tarja.

The next song was ?Ciaran?s Well?, where the band (Tarja wasn?t on stage due to a dress-change) showed their skills.
I?m not quite sure when Mike Terrana played his solo, but I think it was before ?Ciaran?s Well? or ?Lost Northern Star?. He is probably the best drumer I will have seen in my life.
Such an impressive drum playing makes me wish that he will play the drums on ?What lies beneath?

One of the funniest moments was after ?Lost Northern Star?.
Tarja said something like: , At the next song some of you might think: What the f***?! She is doing it again! ? ´ (she didn?t said ?Fuck?, just ?F?. Classy! :) ) and I think the hearable enthusiasm of the audience consisted of laughing and cheering when they began to play ?Poison?.
At ?Oasis? I thought, it would have been nice if she had played that song alone at the keyboard, but it was also nice to hear it with the whole band. Tarja sang a different melody sometimes, which made that song absorbing.

The best part of the show at the end, when Tarja, Alex, Max and Christian played in the middle of the audience. Absolutly breathtaking! She asked the people around her to sit down, so that the people, which stood farther away could watch, too.
A mix of 4 different songs (?Wisdom of Wind?, ?Boy and the Ghost?, ?Our great Divide? and ?Calling Grace?) was played and also a new one ?Montanas del silencio?, although ?If you believe? was standing on the setlist. ;-)
The last two songs were ?Deep Silent Complete? and ?Die Alive?. A beautiful and powerful ending of a beautiful concert.

She wore three different dresses that all suited her very well.
    As always. :D
Now my opinion about Tarja?s connection with the audience. She seemed to be very happy to be able to play in Ludwigsburg again, because the last time she was there was ten years ago, at the end of 1999.
That she didn?t ignored the fans could have been seen at one incident in the middle of the show. One woman, that stood behind me, handed her a present. Tarja took it and it seemed to be a flag, but she wasn?t quite sure like we all, so she asked that woman what it is and got the answer that it is the mexican flag. It seemed to me that she was really astonished that a fan went all the way from Mexico just to see her in Germany.

The only thing that was a little bit annoying were the fans that were screaming when Tarja spoke or played a quiet song like ?Oasis? or ?Minor Heaven?
But on the other hand everybody expresses his/her feelings different and they really seemed to enjoy the music.
All in all you could see at the show that the music and the fans are very important for her and that she enjoyes the performances.

P.S.: My english isn?t that good and if somebody finds grammar or other mistakes which are concerned with the language I would be pleased if you keep that to yourself.

  13. Thnx Franziska for review, it's very good. btw you can be proud of Rammstein:D

  14. Well ! I don't listen to the music of Rammstein, as I like much more the artists that sing in english. :)
I think german sounds a little bit boring in songs.
But yes... I can be proud of Rammstein. Their music is very different from the other famous german bands, which are mostly commercial, and I never heard any negative comment about them.

Thanks for the nice comments on the review :D.
It took some time to write it in Microsoft word (my internet doesn't work well and i feared that it disconnects when I'm writing the last sentences) and when I copied and posted it I saw that some symbols had been replaced by a question mark. :(
    It looks funny.

  15. Franziska, thanks for lovely review! I'm glad you had great time!
I'm also so glad that she performs Minor Heaven and The Seer live, I love those songs!

So do I but Rammstein is kind of unique coz of their singing in German, maybe that's why they are so popular too. They are the most popular band from German (or not?). But could you tell me something about reaction in German to their new singiel?

I don't know their new single, as I just know 3 or 4 older songs from them. But maybe I'm going to listen to it
    later on. :-)
People from abroad connecting mostly these things with Germany:
Oktoberfest, Mercedes, BMW, bratwurst, Rammstein and .... Hitler! :-D
So, yes, they are famous, but cause of the kind of their music I don't hear them in the radio and I can't say if they are that popular yet.

Franziska wrote on 02.10.2009 at 22:49

  18. I think they are since even Metalica feels to them respect.

Isabell wrote on 03.10.2009 at 14:04

  19. Rammstein are HUGE in Germany (just try to get to one of their concerts here!), but they aren't played on major radio stations or anything like that and their videos aren't very much present on MTV, either (I hear they are played like once or twice a week altogether). A friend estimates that perhaps 5% of young people listen to them. They're clearly more popular than Nightwish, for comparison.

They are one of those bands who are more or less entirely dependent on their loyal fan base, since metal is still not fully accepted by the mainstream media. Although press reports (usually presenting them in a negative light) help spreading their notoriety, as well.

Almagest wrote on 11.10.2009 at 00:47

  20. One point, I think, that makes Rammstein more popular is that their fan base is less lopsided regarding gender.

Almagest wrote on 11.10.2009 at 00:50

  21. Their single stirred up a lot of buzz in the German press, because the video, but that seems to have been quite deliberate ...
