ASPERA To Support TARJA TURUNEN In Spain, Switzerland

Norwegian progressive metallers ASPERA will support former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen on the following dates:

Sep. 26 - Salamandra 1 - Barcelona, Spain
Sep. 27 - La Riviera - Madrid, Spain
Sep. 29 - Z7 - Pratteln, Switzerland

ASPERA will also perform at the 10th anniversary of rock festival 1001 Watt on October 9 in Skien, Norway. Also scheduled to appear are SUPREMACY, SABATON, CIRCUS MAXIMUS and many others.

ASPERA's debut album, "Ripples", is due later in the year via an as-yet-undetermined record label. 10 solid songs will be released on the CD once a suitable record/publishing deal has been finalized. The tracks were mixed at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden by Jens Bogren, who is well known for his work with OPETH, SYMPHONY X, HAMMERFALL, AMON AMARTH and PARADISE LOST.

The five aspiring young musicians from Skien are already starting to compete with more established bands in the international metal scene. Under the name ILLUSION, ASPERA previously released three self-recorded EPs and has 40-plus live shows under its belt. But being just 19 years old, the bandmembers have not only a long and healthy future ahead of them but also a talent and creativity which belies their relative youth. On "Ripples", they deliver to a consistently high standard, and in Atle Pettersen, the band has a frontman with an outstanding and very unique voice.

ASPERA is:

Robin Ognedal - Guitar
Nickolas Pettersen - Keyboards
Joachim Strøm - Drums
Atle Pettersen - Vocals
Rein Blomquist - Bass

  1. Interesting, obviously a quite new band (not even in the Metal Archives yet). Listened to the samples on their website. Nothing mind-blowingly original, but sounds good - this prog/power metal fan likes. For such a young band, definitely respectable. These lads can play!

By the way, when I read the name "Skien", I immediately recognised the name and then remembered that Pagan's Mind is from there too. I suppose they could play the role of "big brothers" for them :-D Anyway, there must be some people already believing in them and supporting them financially, they're lucky.

The only thing that irritates me is the tone of voice of the singer, it reminds me of Mr. Lordi at times XD

I see supporting Tarja is their first time playing outside Norway. Must be a very important occasion for them, then.

OK, so this is not about metal from Finland but I just wanted to comment on it.
