TARJA TURUNEN covers Deep Purple's "Child In Time"

Tarja Turunen has covered Deep Purple's "Child In Time" on Friday, 05.06.2009, at the Rata Blanca concert in Buenos Aires, where she sang as a guest. Watch a high-quality video of the performance below.

Tarja Turunen has set "What Lies Beneath" as the working title of her new solo CD, tentatively due before the end of the year. She says, "With [2007's] 'My Winter Storm', I chose the name of the album in the early stages and that helped me to create the concept for the album. With the new album, I decided to do it the same way, so I searched for an inspiring title and all the songs are one way or another related to it."

Regarding the songwriting process for the new CD, Turunen said, "In the last months I've been writing a lot of music for my new album. Songwriting is always an amazing learning experience, and it has been a pleasure to discuss music with different people.

"The album process is still going on and I have more songs that are in the working. It is sounding very promising. The songs are absolutely more mature, wild, and emotional and they sound more me, if I can say so.

"The biggest difference in preparing this new album is that I will be taking the time that I need until the songs are in a shape that I am happy with. No matter how long it takes. I want it to be perfect for me. No hurry; no pressure."

  6. Of course she is serious with this, and you should listen to the second part of these videos, she really blows your mind with the high note at the end of it. This is just the first part. I was there. And the public at the beggining was rather cold, they didn't know much about her, and didn't know what to expect from her. But in the end she was very warmly aclaimed. People got mad with Deep Purple's Child in Time, and they couldn't believe their ears! We were on extasis in the end.
And with Rata Blanca's classic "Guerrero del Arcoiris" she absolutely conquered the audience. They loved her!

  8. And now I am talking to you, yes, YOU, don't look aside, I want to tell YOU:

This one is for you, for you, only for you!

and here you are, the second part, keep watching 'till the end of the song, and pay attention! She achieved the highest note ever! and after it, she sung with Adrian Barilari, Rata Blanca's singer, "Guerrero del Arcoiris"... they rocked the audience!

  10. I couldn't stop laughing after the first part, but the second is even worse. She can't write good songs, so she decided to destroy great songs written by other composers.

  11. Please. Tarja, don´t go there. You´re not metal. Stick to "Ave Maria" and stuff. Also seen your Nirvana interpert. As I sad before, leave rock and metal be and do what you´re really good at. Christmas carrols and folk songs.

  12. It's easy to talk trash about an artist, especially when you were not there to see the performance live. The audience loved her version, it was very well received! And her duets with Rata Blanca's singer Adrian Barilari were awesome as well (the videos were not posted here though...)
You might not like what she did with the song, but at least she tried to make it her own and I totally respect her for that. It's a lot easier to make a cover that sounds exactly like the original...
