NIGHTWISH Kicks Off European Tour; Setlist Revealed

Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH kicked off the 2009 leg of their world tour last night (Wednesday, March 11) at the Brixton Academy in London, England.

The group's setlist was reportedly as follows:

01. 7 Days To The Wolves
02. Dead To The World
03. The Siren
04. Amaranth
05. Romanticide
06. Dead Boy's Poem / Walking In The Air
07. Sahara
08. Nemo
09. The Islander
10. The Poet And The Pendulum
11. Dark Chest Of Wonders
12. The Escapist

Encore:

13. Ghost Love Score
14. Wish I Had An Angel

Fan-filmed video footage of the "7 Days To The Wolves" performance can be viewed below.

Due on March 13 via Nuclear Blast Records, NIGHTWISH's new CD/DVD, "Made In Hong Kong (And In Various Other Places)", will contain a DVD documentary (with a running time of approximately 45 minutes) of NIGHTWISH's world tour in support of the band's latest album, "Dark Passion Play", as well as a CD featuring live recordings from the trek. The documentary footage was reportedly directed by Ville Lipiäinen.

NIGHTWISH has scheduled following signing sessions during the band's European tour:

Friday, March 20
SATURN Karlsruhe Germany
Kaiserstraße 217
76137 Karlsruhe
Start: 2:00 p.m.

Saturday, March 21
SATURN Erfurt Germany
Anger 1 - 3
99084 Erfurt
Start: 2:30 p.m.

NIGHTWISH issued a digital-only collection of demos and B-sides titled "The Sound of Nightwish Reborn", on September 2, 2008. This release, which clocks in at nearly 70 minutes of music, retains "must-have" status for all NIGHTWISH diehards, since it includes a bevy of exclusive material, such as demo versions of songs from the "Dark Passion Play" sessions that were recorded prior to singer Anette Olzon joining the band and that feature Marco Tapani Hietala handling the vocals, as well as B-sides.

  4. awesome night, great setlist as well :) and the pyrotechnics were great too :D if somewhat blinding at times... XD

any idea what the first song Pain played was? i got the rest of their setlist but im not sure of the first one they played...

  5. That setlist isn't entirely correct... I think Poet and the Pendulum came after Dead Boy's Poem, and The Escapist before Dark Chest of Wonders. Walking In The Air was not played, but Tuomas played some of Michael Nyman's The Piano at the end of The Islander...plus a couple other things. But close enough. Romanticide and The Escapist were played for the first time ever and were brilliant with Anette on vocals, and it was the first time she's sung Ghost Love Score...also excellent. All in all, great setlist

  6. They were absolutely epic. I heard them practising "Ghost Love Score" when I was stood outside and nearly died because that is the song I always wanted to hear live, but never thought they would play....

Such a shame they left so quickly afterwards though, I would have loved to have met them >_<

  8. Omg, they ruined my favourite songs :-(

  9. Ghost love score sounded terrible, it doesn't suit her voice at all, she doesn't have the voice for it and DBP became so flat and pop-like in her interpretation :(((

  10. Can't wait to see Anette singing Ghost Love Score tomorrow^^

  11. no wishmaster??no bye,bye??no ever dream??... :((((

  12. They said in "Kerrang!" this week that they don't want to play "Bye Bye Beautiful" at the moment because they think they've overplayed it or something...

  13. yeah, also, that setlist isn't right - i was making a playlist of it on my iPod during the gig (coz I'm cool XD) and it was actually:

    7 days to the wolves
    dead to the world
    the siren
    amaranth
    dead boy's poem
    romanticide
    the poet and the pendulum
    nemo
    sahara
    the islander
    escapist
    dark chest of wonders

    encore:
    ghost love score
    wish i had an angel

  14. Ghost love score? Dead boy's poem? omg.. lets see what she'll do:s

  15. I was there. And I must say Dead Boy's Poem and Ghost Love Score are not for her, she does not fit in this song :((. It was a big disappointment.

  17. She is awful at singing DBP and GLS, she failed these songs.

Laura wrote on 20.03.2009 at 14:18

  18. oh PLEASE let the setlist be the same in the US!!!!!!!!
i want to hear anette's versions of these songs!

Max wrote on 20.03.2009 at 16:04

  19. Old songs are not for her, I've never heard before such horrible singng, even cover bands do songs lke GLS better than she did. And she killed DBP.
