NORTHER Parts Ways With Singer PETRI LINDROOS

Finnish metal band NORTHER has parted ways with longtime singer/guitarist Petri Lindroos. The group says in a statement, "NORTHER was forced to let Petri go to be able to continue. Petri's full-time engagement in ENSIFERUM increasingly prevented NORTHER from functioning as an active band.

"Petri wishes NORTHER all the best for the future. Current NORTHER crew — Kristian, Jukka, Tuomas and Heikki — wants to thank Petri for all these great years together and wishes him the best of luck with ENSIFERUM."

NORTHER was founded in 2000 and has thus far released five full-length albums, two EPs, a DVD, four singles and the soundtrack to the Finnish film "V2". The band has done extensive touring with such acts as DIMMU BORGIR, HYPOCRISY, TURISAS and FINNTROLL.

NORTHER is currently signed to Century Media Records (Europe and USA) and Marquee Avalon (Japan).

NORTHER released its latest album, "N", in North America on September 30. The record marked the band's Century Media debut and featured two bonus tracks from the "No Way Back" EP, "No Way Back" and "C.U.S.", along with a video for the song "We Rock" (which can be viewed below).

"N" entered the Finnish national chart at position No. 5 back in February 2008. The CD was recorded and produced by longtime partner Anssi Kippo (CHILDREN OF BODOM) at Astia Studios and mixed by Fredrik Nordström (DARK TRANQUILLITY, ARCH ENEMY, IN FLAMES) at Studio Fredman in Sweden.

Crap!!!!!!!!!, and I was just beginning to look into these guys, I love Petri's vocals, they go so well with the type of music Norther makes. Well I guess that I'm gonna have to look into past Norther things and now look into Ensiferum too, YAY!!!!! more Finnish Metal

I kind of agree with Amber... such a shock to find put this. Petri was damn fit in Norther and I thought he would let go first of Ensiferum than this band. I hope they get a new good vocal soon.

They couldn't chase a founder member away in this way!
I know, Norther didn't make a serious tour for N because of Petri's commitments with Ensiferum, but Norther was Petri's band, he founded it so many years ago, and Norther won't be the same without him. I am so, so sad about this, but also so angry with the members of the band..
But anyway, I wish all the best for Petri in Ensiferum.
But guys, I am so disappointed about this.

Ohh man, their last album N is quite good...
Well without Petri, hope they can find suitable singer/guitarist to replace him...

A real shame, or are equally good band Ensiferum, but I like much Norther, a sadness :( but luck and Petri does well.

good, ensiferum is way better anyway.... well maybe not WAY better, that's a personal opinion i know, but they sounded similar anyway, the guy didn't need two bands. but i think he made the right move in sticking with ensiferum

Its unfortunate Petri quit, but at the end of the day its his choice... I guess he fancies a change in Ensiferum, even though they might not appeal to every Norther fan. And I'm sure Norther will find another singer, there are plenty with similiar styles; with this kind of band the instrumental identity is what is important.
