APOCALYPTICA Calls Christmas In Finland 'Dark Period'

The Pulse of Radio reports: Christmas may be a time of celebration and joy for many people, but according to the members of APOCALYPTICA, that's not the case in their native Finland. The holiday comes during a period in which the northern country doesn't get any sunlight for up to four months, and APOCALYPTICA member Eicca Toppinen told The Pulse of Radio that leads to more problems. "Finland is number one in suicide numbers in the world," he said. "Christmas is the worst time for that, and it seems to be very hard because the dark period lasts for three to four months every winter. And all these lonely people, you know, they're already depressed, and when it comes to the time of Christmas, they can't stand it."

APOCALYPTICA scored their first No. 1 rock radio hit last month with "I Don't Care", the latest single from the band's sixth studio album, "Worlds Collide".

The disc has sold 153,000 copies in the U.S. and marks the rock cello quartet's first significant success in this country in their 15-year career.

"I Don't Care" features guest vocals from THREE DAYS GRACE frontman Adam Gontier, while SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor contributed vocals to the CD's first single, "I'm Not Jesus".

  2. Finland is actually number 15 on most suicide rates by country according to data from the World Health Organization in which a country's rank is determined by its total rate of suicides. That's pretty far from number one.

  3. Ohhh, that`s so sad!

I know a little bit about Finland because I personally love this country, but this is something I just didn`t know. I hope finnish people find the way to get over this and live well and happy.

Just look for it in your heart, people. And remember: It`s always darker before sunrise!

    Happy Holidays Finland!!! (From Venezuela)

  4. Well... I think people should enjoy themselves and be together in Xmas. You can't fight suicide by being depressed too.

But yeah i know about the suicides, poor people :( indeed finish people and so nice and polite and so vulnerable. Well the only finish people i've ever meet are the guys from apocalyptica and can say only the best for them, i love them. Apocalyptica are real finnish ambasadors!
...Finnish people should leave Finland (whoever can)for those few 'dark weeks' and go more south :)
Enjoy the sun and warm clime and hung around with the southern people, it would help i think ;)
