DOWNFALL: Studio Update

Since the release of our latest effort, the 2006 self-titled E.P. we have been writing new material, rehearsing with a partly new line-up and even throwing some nice gigs. Way too little gigs though...Anyway, in September 2007 things had come to the point that we had 8 new songs to be recorded and as the history repeats itself, so did we and the natural choice was to start at Studio Watercastle in Jyväskylä. September 2007 ??....I think we had four days to play the drums in ...five days? Not more than six days I`m sure. Mr. Dummer himself, Coolberg stroke them drums hard, a Sonor set it was. And if everything went eventually fine there were also some points in time when phrases like “What the hell?” “What the hell was that?” and “What the hell was that whatthehell for?”. Needless to say the drum tracks were finally recorded in with pinpoint accuracy and only with a modest hint of modern technology...a studio live with only drums playing, yeaah that`s the spirit!

During the end of 2007 and spring,summer and autumn of 2008 we worked with endless lines of guitar- bass- and vocal takes. DIY and it will never end...To be honest some of the arrangements went totally to trashbin and those tracks we basically recomposed over the existing drumtracks, that`s what we think at least...outsider listener would maybe hear no difference. But as a result we have some killer low –tuned and melodic tracks with loads of vocals, both clean and growls, mixed with more catchy choruses as any DF –piece ever. And that`s a lot said..

So, this is veeery very short version of the truth. I don`t want to bore you with all the starting troubles and 60 cycle hums that were present when we first started to record in our location. I don`t want you to know anything about the fine art of tuning the guitars down to A# and then play them in tune that feels like rubber bands strung in a shovel. And I definitely don`t want you to know absolutely anything about our lucky ba****d drummer who lay himself on the studio couch and asked “why isn`t this ready yet”?

Despite and because all of that we are here now finishing our part of the process and eagerly waiting the trip to Sweden, where we are going to mix the album with the one Jens Bogren at Fascination Street studios. As mentioned somewhere else, the sessions begin at December 4th and I`m sure that you will also get your share of the process written down in these pages.

Meanwhile, please wait for a while longer...it`s really not that much anymore!
