NIGHTWISH's ANETTE OLZON Interviewed By MTV BRAZIL; Video Available

A brand-new two-minute interview with singer Anette Olzon of the Finnish/Swedish symphonic metal band NIGHTWISH conducted by MTV Brazil can be viewed below.

As previously reported, NIGHTWISH was forced to cut Monday night's (November 10) concert in Belo Horizone, Brazil short after Olzon suddenly appeared to start crying at the end of the song "The Poet And The Pendulum" (about six tracks into the group's set) and walked off stage, leaving the rest of the band to finish the song with bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala attempting to handle some of the lead-vocal parts. The group played two more cover songs and ended the show, explaining that Anette was "really not up to doing this kind of heavy shit right now." Olzon has since reportedly released a statement to the Brazilian media in which she blamed the cancellation on "an excessive amount of smoke" inside the Belo Horizone venue, which "was irritating my vocal cords." She explained, "When I felt my voice was beginning to go, I ended up panicking and had to leave the stage. The band tried to give me some time to recover but I had no way of coming back since I was not able to sing."

NIGHTWISH cancelled the last four shows of its North American tour — September 23 in Knoxville, Tennessee; September 24 in Charlotte, North Carolina; September 26 in Baltimore, Maryland; and September 27 in New York City — due to Anette Olzon's "sudden severe illness," according to a posting on the band's web site.

NIGHTWISH released a digital-only collection of demos and B-sides titled "The Sound of Nightwish Reborn", on September 2. This release, which clocks in at nearly 70 minutes of music, retains "must-have" status for all NIGHTWISH diehards, since it includes a bevy of exclusive material, such as demo versions of songs from the "Dark Passion Play" sessions that were recorded prior to singer Anette Olzon joining the band and that feature Marco Tapani Hietala handling the vocals, as well as B-sides.

  1. What a nice interview :D
And Anette is adorable in it, great personality, 'cos she can talk about rude people with a smile, not showing anger.
That's why guys have chosen her, Nightwish needed somebody like her, who can deal with many difficult situations band has to face.

  2. yeah that's nice, she really understand her job and nightwish
but i'm a little bit disapointed 'cause she doesn't speak about her problems on stage in belo horizonte...she could do that to rassure everyone and maybe to apologize to the fans who paid and waited long time for nightwish....the mystery is always here!!! SD

  3. So to say "i'm sorry" she can't but she can blame disrespectful fans?Maybe she needs to start thinking why a lot of people react this way on her?Maybe then she will start working on herself and try to improve herself instead of looking for excuses?

  4. Anette already apologized to the Brazilian (or what was it?) fans, so that wasn't really necessary I think.

  5. @Mila: As I said before, Anette DID apologize several times through the Brazilian media.
I don't think there is anything wrong with Anette so I don't really uderstand what youre talking about when you say that she needs to start working on herself? The main reason that people do not like her is because she is not Tarja, and I have never met a group of such disrespectful peole as the anti-Anette ones, just because they liked Tarja better.

  6. People are all the time talking how unprofessional Anette Olzon is. What do you call it when you are on stage trying your best and you have people in front row showing their middlefinger yet she still carries on? I think that is very professional of her.

There are tons of Tarja-fanatics who doesn't care what is said, they are going to bash Anette anyway. Tarja has her own career now and she is doing it very well. Why can't you accept that and keep on supporting Tarja with her new career?

No one asks you to be Nightwish fans anymore anyway. Tarja train passed long time ago...get over it.

  7. Ngihtwish is great. Music is the best. But they should find another singer -- sorry! She just does not fit to this group, music and world.

  8. what written garcia is very wise, and true.
i don't think Anette don't fit to group, and i don't think fans should say something like that.
what I really think is that nightwish do theyr work, and if you like it well
if you don't like it you shouldn't blame them. and people should not blame annette, nightwish choose her, so they liked her, and I don't think they're going to care about people that doesn't like her.
there is still the right to live....

  9. I wish NW and especially Anette all the support she needs. It must have been quite a tough period for her as a star, as a remote mother (which does not reduce in any means her love to her child), as a working woman, as a human being fulfilling her passion. I would love to see any man compared to her to be so much under a magnifying glass, including her comparison to Tarja and her private life. BTW has anyone ever worried about who takes care of the children of Jukka Nevalainen or Marco Hietala?

  10. Anette is not Tarja. Tarja was going to leave regardless. The sound of Nightwish is different now. That comes with change. The sound changed when Sami left. Nightwish is more than a sound, or a personality. Nightwish is life. Is your life the same now as it was ten years ago?

  11. wow..."biggest thing is to tour, because first of all u must show yourself to the ppl to get more buyers ...and also you get money on the concerts.." 2 perfect reasons to join a band...
And she have to look at a morror to see who's stupid and immature...(:

  12. I love her hair! she looks good as either a blonde, redhead or even a brunette. as long as she doesn't cut her hair to short!
also she sounded great and I don't understand why she left the stage in tears.

  13. People should not be so hard on Anette - they have been touring like mad, and that can be rough on anyone. She is not the first singer to have lost her voice in the middle of the show. This is why I'm glad that most places in america no longer allow smoking in the venues!

Zorsha wrote on 07.12.2008 at 04:01

  14. that was so unprofessional, nettie! sure blame the smoke! what smoke i didn't saw any! tarja came back after that attack, you didn't! you are so weak....
