LORDI's EUROVISION Image Named 'Press Photo Of The Year'

Helsingin Sanomat reports that photographer Sami Kero's quirky image depicting the Eurovision Song Contest winners LORDI, taken in Athens last May after the band's Finnish triumph, was honored with the "Press Photo of the Year" award Friday (April 13) during the Helsinki Media Conference at the Helsinki Fair Centre. Sami Kero is employed by Helsingin Sanomat.

According to the jury, Kero's image "reaches deep into the Finnish identity" and also reminds us of the principle: "less is more."

Kero explains that he took an enormous number of photos in Athens. The winning picture is not the most stunning visually, but it has a clear message: "A monster redeemed Finland."

The photo was snapped at a press conference. "Usually they are the real anti-climaxes", Kero laughs.
