Interviews
Land Of Tales
Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing the lovely lads from Land of Tales. With the recent release of their debut album, we chat about the LoT history and what the future holds for this exciting band.
Suzi: How are you all?
Land Of Tales: We’re fine thanks J
Your self-titled debut album was released by Frontier Records on July 4th of this year. What are your feelings on the finished product?
We’re really satisfied. It sounds exactly how we wanted it to sound and Giulio Cataldo did a very good work with the cover art.
What was your experience recording the album?
It was really hard work, it took a year to complete it, but it was also rewarding. Every song we finished was worth it. But we have to say, we had a lots of fun too.
How have your fans reacted to the album so far?
We have got really positive comments from all over the world to our MySpace and email. Everybody seems to like a different song.
Palle and Kristian; you guys have known each other for many years now; how did you initially meet?
Former drummer of Naiskala introduced us together over 15 years ago. After that we have played together, most of the time.
You've played together previously in the band Naiskala before venturing into Land of Tales. Did you find you had a loyal fanbase that followed you through both bands?
There are few loyal fans, who followed us from Naiskala MySpace profile to Land of Tales profile. Naiskala used to operate only in Finland and in Finnish language.
There are 2 Samis in the band - are there any good nicknames you use to tell them apart?
They are both called Sami, there hasn’t been any problem. Sometimes we use their last name to be clear, but usually Sami is enough.
You have fanclubs in Germany and overseas; do you plan to tour the album outside of Finland?
That’s the reason we’re doing this. There is nothing settled at the moment, but we really want to play to all our fans and friends, probably starting from Europe.
You describe your sound as 'an equal union of keyboards and guitar, of catchy melodies and BIG choruses'. How difficult was it to create a sound that would set you apart from other melodic rock acts?
It wasn’t easy. It needed a lot of listening. Kristian has a many years experience of producing and that made it a little bit easier. The key was to keep it simple, not too many guitars or keys. The main difference, which sets us apart from others, is Kristians unique voice. People either love or hate it.
I've listened to your stuff on My Space and have decided that 'Wasted Chance' is my favourite. Do you guys have particular favourites to listen to or perform live?
Our favourites changes almost daily, but ‘Slow Waters’ and ‘Outlander’ has been there a long time...We love them all.
‘Nobody Dares’ is really fun to play.
What can fans expect from a live Land of Tales Performance?
Land of Tales performance is pure live, there won’t be any sequencers or tapes. There will be a lot of sweat and energy on stage. And some surprises…
As a final remark, what message would you like to leave your fans or potential fans to end this interview?
We would like to thank all our fans for the support. And all potential fans can check clips of the album at www.landoftales.net
Enjoy your summer and rock on!!
