Famous Last Words

Anette Olzon,
Nightwish

WHAT WAS THE LAST LIE YOU TOLD?
-“I never lie. I mean, not bad lies. White lies, maybe, but I can’t remember the last time I told a big lie. Last time was probably telling someone I was on my way when I was till doing my hair. Nothing big though.”

WHAT IS YOUR LAST REGRET?
-“Well, I don’t think you should regret things, I think that you learn from everything that you do. So many times you choose a path, when you could have chosen another path, done something else, but I ultimately feel that I always end up on the right path, I think my destiny is kind of fixed, and I’ve taken some wrong turns.”

WHAT WOULD YOUR LAST MEAL ON EARTH BE?
-“Something Swedish. Some normal food like meatballs or potatoes. I love potatoes, I am crazy for potatoes, so them with meatballs. I love Starbucks sandwiches, but for my last meal I’d go for meatballs.”

WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ?
-“The last book I finished was by the Nobel prize winner Doris Lessing, called The Cleft. She’s a bit feminist and this book is about if the world had been started in another way, if ladies came first, if we didn’t have to mate, if we just ‘had’ kids, and they were all female. But one day, something happened, a male comes out, and he’s a monster. So they kill him. And the whole book is about this, how from having no sexual problems, no war, no fighting, no problems, how things change when men come along. I’m not a feminist, but I really enjoyed the book.”

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
-“Oh, I cry quite often. Two days ago, maybe. Not homesickness, it was a boring business thing, money issues. I don’t like those things, I hate money. So when you are in a situation like this, where you have to think about royalties and tax and business, it becomes quite difficult, it just got too much for me.”

WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR LAST £20 ON?
-“I would probably keep it until I really needed it. And if I only had £20 left in the world, I’d probably need it for something. I wouldn’t waste it on beer. I’m sure one of the guys in the band would find a bar, but not me.”

WHAT WAS THE LAST GIG YOU WENT TO THAT WASN’T YOUR OWN?
-“I honestly can’t remember. We have been on your, non-stop, since November, so all I have time to do is be at our own gigs. We don’t often get enough time off to do anything like that.”
