Myötätuulirock part 1: Kotipelto

I had a slight change in plans when Stam1na cancelled their appearance in Myötätuulirock due to the arm surgery of their drummer. If Stam1na would have been there, I would've been there from the first band on but since that was not the case, I went there four hours later and Kotipelto was the first act.
What can I really say about Kotipelto? I have been fortunate enough to follow his career already from the early Stratovarius years and I must say that he is amazing at what he does. Some say that he keeps on repeating his maneuvers on stage but if a man does his thing well, why change it? And I didn't notice any disturbing maneuvers, in fact, Timo Kotipelto seemed very happy and relaxed. He even cursed on stage...something I haven't heard very often =)
It was nice to notice that some of the old-school things are still cherished like solos. For Lauri Porra (STRATOVARIUS) and Tuomas Wäinölä, solos were planned but according to Mr. Kotipelto, Mirka's short drumsolo was due to the errors he played in City Of Mysteries. I didn't recall any errors so maybe his drumsolo was also planned. It was a very short solo as was the guitar solo of Tuomas short too. Lauri Porra played one hell of a solo. He has an incredible technique and the things he does is not just your average metalstuff. He even added some funk to his solo. So that was a very nice surprise.
Janne Warman (CHILDREN OF BODOM) who has played the keys in KOTIPELTO albums was not in the line-up in Myötätuulirock. Robert Engstrand who has done few European Tours with KOTIPELTO, filled his spot very well.
Overall the show was very good and the sound was excellent. Festivals are always very difficult sound-wisely but for KOTIPELTO, soundguys did an excellent job. Horns up to those guys!
Here is the setlist for the show:

Lord Of Eternity
Once Upon A Time
Sleep Well
City Of Mysteries
(drumsolo)
Take Me Away
(bass solo)
