Biography

Vanity Ink from Helsinki Finland was formed at the end of 2002. The band rises from the ashes of the streetrock groups such as Capital Crime, Silver City Bandits, Crystal Extasy, Weirdorama and BlueInTheFace. The original line-up was Juha Bandit (guitar), Make (guitar), Miki Peltola (bass), Sam Junni (drums) and Annabella (vocals).

Quite soon Annabella had to leave the group for a while and was replaced by Stiina with whom the band released their debut EP "...roadkills!" in October 2004. The next year brought Annabella back in the Vanityland and she was warmly welcomed by the rest of the guys. The original singer brought along more energy and fun, attitude and charisma, sex and alcohol - everything it takes to be a great rock'n'roll band! Middle finger up and a big smile! The first half of the year 2005 Vanity Ink spent working on new songs and playing gigs around Finland. The second EP "Vanity is a full-time job" was released in September and got raving reviews in fanzines all over the world.

In January 2006 guitarist Make decided to concentrate on healthier things in life and left the group. Vanity Ink continued as a four-piece but they brought along an old friend JP Kola to play the rhythm guitar on tour. 2006 was similar to the previous year, ie. the band rocked the stages in Finland and worked on new songs.

In August 2006 Vanity Ink started recording their debut full-length album. During the autumn the band recorded 13 tracks of which 11 were mixed and mastered and ended up on the album “On Your Skin”. The first long-player by Vanity Ink saw the light of day in January 2007.

The booklet of the album says “Vanity Ink is Annabella, Juha Bandit, Miki Peltola and Sam Junni” which describes very well the all-around atmosphere and the friendship of this foursome. To put it in a cliché way: one for all and all for one. Everyone of the Fantastic Four was involved in everything that was going on in the studio. Of course the “main duties” were same as before (Miki on bass & backing vocals, Annabella on lead & backing vocals and percussion, Juha on guitars & backing vocals, Sam on drums & percussion) but the hard-hitting drummer also helped Juha out with the guitars. He showed his skills by playing rhythm guitar on most of the tracks on the album and gave Juha more time to concentrate on licks and solos. Of course the main axeman also layed down some rhythms.

A lot of everything was consumed during the making of On Your Skin but it was all worth it. Everyone in the Vanitarium is very proud of and satisfied with the album. Now as the album is in stores all around, it’s time to hit the road again and rock as many towns and joints as possible and show all the people that rock’n’roll is not a lifestyle, it’s a bloodtype. Come to see this crazy caravan but watch out; they’re loose... and on your skin!
