SARCOFAGUS mainman Kimmo Kuusniemi has checked in with the following update: “Last year I was approached by Australian Brutal Ballet if they could include our music into their upcoming ballet, Out Of The Darkness. I was more than happy to have Sarcofagus as part of this production. Sarcofagus has and always will be looking into creating experimental and progressive productions. As a film maker I had a classical ballet dancer in the music video we made for the Polish death metal band VADER for song 'Dark Age' in 1992. Even back then I thought classical ballet goes well with metal music. Brutal Ballet chose the track 'Black Contract' from Sarcofagus 1980s Envoy Of Death album, which is a very dark experimental song about what happens when you sell your soul

Biography

Sarcofagus is reputed to be one of the most influential & original Scandinavian Progressive Heavy Metal Bands (formed 1977).
They have inspired and influenced numerous new metal bands.

Sarcofagus History in Nutshell:
- Officially the first Finnish Heavy Metal Band
- First Finnish Heavy Metal Band singing in Finnish
- First Scandinavian Heavy Metal Band to have female vocalist (Muska Babitzin)
- First Scandinavian Band (first in the world?) to release a FULL ALBUM length story/live broadcast quality video ever (Kimmo Kuusniemi Band (Sarcofagus) / Moottorilinnut). This was before MTV, rental/sales videos and before people had VHS players. Talking about being ahead of time :) Coming out soon as a DVD!
- Released 1 Single and 3 Albums (2 albums re released in Italy 1996 by Mellotron, Cycle of Life released in Finland 2006).
- 4th album coming out soon after 25 years with original lineup (except for vocals); Kimmo Kuusniemi (guitars/drums), Esa Kotilainen (keyboards), Juha Kiminki (Bass) and Tanja Karttunen (Vocals).
- Kimmo Kuusniemi was the 1st spoke person for Finnish Heavy Metal. He also started the Finnish Heavy Metal Association to bring together all the metal fans in the age before communication revolution.
- Kimmo Kuusniemi brought metal to radio, TV and papers where he was used as the expert to explain the metal philosophy to reporters.
- In 2004 Kimmo Kuusniemi released a downloadable free web version of 1981 Moottorilinnut (Motorbirds) album with original alternative cover.
