Biography

Sans Human was started in early 2005 by three Vuosaari locals looking for a band which matched their stylistic tastes. Jani Elokoski (Rythm Guitar), Toni Toikkanen (Lead Guitar), and Seppo Kallioinen (Drums), met in the basement of the local youth house and began writing songs. In early summer 2005, they recruited William Torrey, newly immegrated from the USA, as lead vocals and lyricist. At this time the band took the name Sans Human and played it's first show, having friend and fellow musician Mika Pusa (Vanguard) filling in on bass. Around a week after the bands first show, Sans Human went to record their first demo. At 20 euros per day, the production was nothing special, but it was instrumental in building the beginnings of the bands career. During the recording process, The band also discovered their first permanent bass player in friend Tony Sjögren. Sans Human then went on to play several shows around the Helsinki region, gathering a small but loyal fan base. Half a year later, the band was once again recording. This time, Sans Human was able to afford recording time in Sonic Pump Studios. This production, needless to say, was far better than the previous demo, and the fans ate it up. This was followed by more shows throughout the spring, with a further refining of the bands sound. In summer 2006, Sans Human began having some problems. Tensions between the members were high, and arguments common. William was removed from the band for a time with Toni Toikkanen taking over vocals. The solo guitar slot now being open, Sans Human began searching for a fitting replacement. Juha-Matti Paussu was found shortly thereafter, and stepped into the role. A little after this, William was asked to re-join the band for a single show, and after the show was offered his old job back permanently. He and Toikkanen shared the role of lead vocals for a time, until some internal issues saw Toni Sjögren out of the band. At this point, Toni Toikkanen took over on bass, and the band moved on. Several shows were played through the fall and winter, and the new line-up seemed to work. Early spring 2007 saw the band recording again, this time in Jive studios with new friend Tonmi Lilman (Aajatara, Vanguard). The first titled EP, "Awakening" was released in June 2007. Quite satisfied with the quality of these four tracks, Sans Human decided they were fnally ready to look for a recording deal. That search is still in progress, but the band is hopeful about their future, and will be pounding out the tunes no matter what comes their way.
