Biography
Our unbeliavable nature, mystical stories, melancholy personality and exotic language make our country very popular in the world. All the elements mentioned before belongs to Ruoska's repertoire. The band makes professedly world's music - metal, which everyone can listen to, even they can't understand the words. Mennander's extreme clear-cut articulation and the hard consonant and colorful vocals combined with universal rythms have got people all over the Europe asking after Ruoska.
Ruoska's debut album "Kuori" was made with a big hurry and it was released in 2002. Everyone could feel band's open-minded and line-breaking indrustial additude. The second album, "Riisu", saw the daylight in 2003. Kuokkanen, who was joined to the insiders of the band, brought even darker tone to band's lyrics. "Riisu" made a whole different splash in music medias than its forerunner. Critiques praised band's courage to make a new kind of music, regardless of unwritten rules and taboos. Machines had became even more important in their music and the songs had more melody than "Kuori" had, but the music's hardness still lasted.
Playing together during many years and decided developing themselfes as a musician appeared in mens attitude and Ruoska's few and chosen gigs started to made a stir in even bigger circles. The vocalist, Patrik Mennander went and get new power from a Tolkien-metalband Battelore. Afterwards their ways has gone separate ways and Mennander's, like all the Ruoska's guys, only music project is nowadays Ruoska.
In 2005 band released their next album "Radium", which was also the last album made under the wings of Kråklund records. Radium's songs "Tuonen viemää" and "Käärmeenpesä" started to took place in the radio charts. Then in 2006 the band made a difficult decision and they decided to change Kråklund Records to a multinatonal recording company, EMI Music. Their fans scared that band's music would change more pop within EMI, but the next album, "Amortem" exceeded the expectations and the band grew even bigger. Amortem's singles "Mies yli laidan", "Alasin" and "Pure minua" were big hits, and Amortem brought thounsands of new fans to Ruoska. Amortem also climbed to the sixth place of Finnish official record list and stayed there almost ten weeks.
