Biography

In March 2000 Jaakko Järvensivu made a fatal phone call. He was frustrated after being in several bands that didn’t work out. Now he wanted to form a metal group that would have it all - the talent, the patience, the chemistry, the attitude. He called drummer Vilho Rajala, whose previous band had recently disbanded, and asked him and bassist Roope Lehtinen to join in. Needless to say, they said yes.

After just a few rehearsals the trio had a couple of songs written. Even though they didn’t have a decent line-up yet, they decided to record a four-song EP already in August. So they went to Fantom Studio with recording engineer Henkka Wirsell and played everything on tape in just one day. Luckily enough, Antti Ojanen came along to do the vocal parts a little later. He also quickly became a permanent member. Just a few months later Roope’s brother Mikko Lehtinen was recruited as the second guitarist, since the songs obviously needed two guitars.

This was the line-up for the next six years. Six years of rehearsing, constant gigging, writing songs and having fun. Talk about some band chemistry. Another EP was made in 2001 (Sinking) and the debut album Happiness Is Fiction saw daylight in 2003. Everything has always been done at the band’s own expense at Fantom Studio, with Henkka handling the recording.

The philosophy of MY FATE has always been to simply go ahead, no matter what happens or what other people say. Instead of whining about not having a record deal, this band has just done things with no one violating their artistic freedom. In 2004 the band’s own label MY FATE Music was founded, and it’s first release is Kill The Light, MY FATE’s second album.

This furious piece of work portrays an ambitious band with extreme aggression, super-heavy riffing and sinister melodies. The songs have plenty of elements from death & thrash metal but the album is too diverse to fit in either of the genres. All of the band’s many faces are there: from the raw opening of Sacrilegehymn, through the deep ocean of melancholy of Baneflow Cycle into the fearsome atmosphere of The Darkness Beckons, it’s all 100% MY FATE.

The year 2006 turned a new page in My Fate's history. Antti decided to leave the band due to lack of motivation. The rest of the band had no intention to stop, so an extensive search for a new vocalist was announced. After a couple of months Jukka Ruostila was hired for the job.

And so My Fate continues their journey in the world of metal...
