Biography

In the end of the summer 2004 drummer Jucca Ääri and guitarist Juha-Matti Helmi happened to bump into each other in a bar in the city of Aura in south-western Finland. At that time both men were still playing in different groups but they had very similar musical interests. They changed contact informations so that merry nights could be spent in the future too.

Closer to fall Juha-Matti left his previous band Autere. After a while he felt an urgent need to have a new line-up to play in, and the first person he thought of was Jucca Ääri. The activity of Jucca’s band Dreamfalls had little by little expired so there was no obstacle to forming a new band. Jucca’s bass playing twin brother Jarno Ääri was also present in the first band meeting. A temporary rehearsal place was located in a small country town called Loimaa (some 40 kilometres northeast from Aura) where the trio played together for the first time in November 5th 2004. Thus Curimus was born, henceforth rehearsing actively.

The group was still lacking a singer. No suitable vocalist was found although search was intense. Despite this the three men went on training more frequently and composing continuously for a year, until Juha-Matti accidentally met his childhood friend Marko Silvennoinen in the night life of Loimaa. They talked about the singer problem and promised to get back on the subject. The band delivered their material to Marko for him to listen, and it must have sounded good because he’s still growling in the band. Finally the whole pack was complete with an immense enthusiasm in music making.

Today (3.8.2006) Curimus is doing better than ever rehearsing three times a week in Loimaa and composing new songs steadily. Right now the band is thinking when would it be right time to visit a studio and record a promo with a couple of tracks. There may be a slight delay yet because all new songs seem to outstrip the previous ones. The will to perform live is also growing within the band and the intention is to be seen on stage as often as possible. Thus far has Curimus currently gotten and the rest is – as always – up only to them.
